Recruitment on the client side of things used to be about phone calls and gatekeepers. You get a yellow pages and work through the list of businesses to work out who the MAN was (Means, Authority, Need). This was often done by navigating a number of gatekeepers either on reception or PAs/secretaries.
Yet, since coming back into recruitment this year I’m amazed how few gatekeepers there are! Phone calls to businesses these days often ring out or straight to VM. And a couple of weeks ago I saw why..
Walking around Blythe Valley Business Park canvassing (yes old school!) there were many businesses with no reception at all! One just had a phone and an empty lobby for parcels to be dropped. One had a security system that had no lobby for visitors at all.
Where have all the gatekeepers gone?!
