Job Title:    Production Engineer
Location:   Sunderland, Tyne & Wear
Hours:        Mon to Thurs 8am-5pm, Fri 8am-12pm
Salary:       £38,170 to £43,869 DOE

K.A.G. Recruitment are looking for a Production Engineer to join our client a global supplier to the Automotive Industry to join their fast-paced Engineering team based in Sunderland.

Purpose of the role:
To implement, measure, maintain and enhance the processes and product during the life cycle of the vehicle model. Ensure equipment and machinery is available to facilitate the efficient production of quality products. Ensure all change to product or processes is risk assessed and conducted effectively & in line with business and customer expectation. Be a part of developing the departmental improvement objects and take responsibility of delivering elements of this.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of process design estimates and solutions to allow new business quotations
  • Support surrounding departments in the investigation, analysis and rectification of customer concerns and 8D investigations.
  • Facilitate the implementation of end-to-end processes from goods into the delivery of good parts into the warehouse.
  • Deployment of Lean Manufacturing principles at process concept and as a process improvement approach.
  • Design and specify processing equipment to achieve product specification, including levels of automation and error proofing. Including jigs and fixture concept design
  • Develop process documentation for APQP process.
  • Trial equipment and buy-off at suppliers as required – UK, Europe and Asia.
  • Troubleshoot processing problems to achieve quality cost and delivery.
  • Identify improvement projects, especially new cost reduction projects.
  • Understand and deliver plant capability and capacity improvements.
  • Direct engineering activities for process technicians.

The ideal candidate will be educated to HND level within an Engineering related discipline and have good interpersonal skills and knowledge of sheet metal processing.  You will have previous experience in process improvement and project management and be able to lead a structured problem-solving and manipulate manually created or electronic data to guide the improvement strategy.
Experience of PLC Programming/ fault finding, PFMEA, identifying and leading process improvement and Poka-yoke (error proofing) techniques are essential.
