Has anyone else got any grudges that they’re holding on to?

I realised recently just how many I had and the negative effect it was having on my relationships with people in general.  As that wonderful quote in the film Jerry Maguire says ‘if you don’t love everybody, you can’t sell anybody.’ And I realised that I was not the forgiving type…

This isn’t something I’m proud of.  I think we hold grudges because we’re trying to protect ourselves and save ourselves from making the same mistakes again.

So, sceptically, I did a 21 day hypnosis audio by Marisa Peer which promised that I would at the end have more compassion and empathy for people.  It said things like holding on to grudges is ‘poisoning my body’ and’ it’s not important to be right; but it is important to be kind.’

‘Anger is like holding tightly to a hot coal and trying to throw it at others’

I have to say I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much lighter I now feel towards those who have ‘wronged’ me.  Anger isn’t good for you and there is so much anger in the world already that it is easy to become hooked on.  And the funny thing is, forgiveness isn’t letting someone off the hook – it’s letting YOU off the hook!

As the Disney classic Frozen suggests, it’s time to #Let it go, let it go!

What grudges are you holding on to?  What do you want to let go of for 2024?
