Much like Steven Gerrard at Villa, Frank Lampard at Everton and currently Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City were ‘big names’ when they were appointed, they didn’t deliver what they were expected to!

Having despaired over the years at clubs making this mistake time and time again, handing the keys to the kingdom to a great player/unproven manager, it got me thinking about how this relates to recruitment…

Big agencies have the reputation to draw clients without having to do a lot of business development.  I was at one myself for a number of years and it was quite an easy sell in a lot of ways because clients had often heard the name before.

But is bigger always better?

In my experience, bigger meant;

  • A higher turnover of recruitment consultants
  • Lack of continuity for clients
  • A less flexible approach to each individual business
  • Higher rates for clients
  • A KPI culture that didn’t include service levels
  • Less urgency with roles
  • Less personal touch and relationship building
  • Less focus on retention

AND… a great deal of complacency culture.

SO when you go shopping for a new recruitment agency, consider that often the bigger brands aren’t necessarily the right choice for your business just based on publicity.

If you are looking for a recruitment partnership that is in line with your values, can tailor their approach to the locations, the culture and the growth you are experiencing, then look no further than K.A.G.

As a 2023 British Recruitment Award Winning agency, we have been recognised nationally for our innovative approach and for going the extra mile with every business we work with.

But really there is no huge secret to how we do things differently, it is simply working by the book and never letting our standards slip that make us stand out from the crowd.

So rather than being blind-sided by the ‘big names’ try the Sean Dyche, Unai Emery and De Zerbi’s of the recruitment world!!
